Eston Square and Cenotaph with the backdrop of the Eston Hills
The truth is, we are just ordinary people in our community, who were so ashamed of our once lovely village and then town centre, which became so run-down, neglected full of weeds with the ugly 60's grey bleak concrete jungle, of a shopping centre. The final straw for us was when it was likened as an epitaph in out local paper, by an expat from Eston when visiting Eston after living in Australia for 25 years, wrote
"that all that was needed was a piece of tumble weed blowing down the high street and it could be likened to a scene from High Noon"
This was a wrong that the people of Eston wanted to put right. We had been forgotten, and also forgotten was our important role of growth and development of our countries Great Iron & Steel Story. Our pleas for help and support and to work together to the establishment, fell on deaf ears. Undeterred we decided to try and do something about it ourselves. Our pride was sorely wounded and at a very low ebb.........
